State Meet Recap

Girls Recap

Yesterday’s state track meet kept with the season theme of unexpected weather. First, we dealt with overwhelming humidity and pounding sun. This was mixed with oppressive heat taking a toll on our recovery. Next, came a round of storms building up and finally letting loose during the first heat of the girls 4×400. We made it all the way to the last event of the season when we were pulled from the stands for a weather delay that would last 1.5 hours before state officials called the meet around 10:45 PM. The team results will stand as they were up to that event, and all medals not awarded up to the that time will be mailed to us. Where did that leave the Lady Camels? In 11th place. To give you an idea of how tight the state meet can be, just 5 points separated us from 6th place. Would running the 4×400 have given us that jump? Maybe. But finishing 11th out of 42 scoring teams, and among hundreds of schools in class AAA is a great accomplishment. What we do know is that we had a great meet with a great group of athletes.

The Lady Camels 4×800 (Reagor, G. Kramer, Meiser, Kavanaugh) set the tone on the big blue track pounding out a season best time of 9:48.69 and hitting the podium in 6th place. Becca Cline followed with a season best 100 Meter Hurdle time of 15.21 and grabbed the State Runner-up Silver Medal. Kayla Kavanaugh sprinted the first 400 of her 800 meter run and dropped a School Record Breaking time of 2:21.48 and placing 7th in the state meet. Becca Cline took the podium a second time in her closeout race with a 3rd place finish in the 300 meter hurdles, and broke a season best time overcoming a clipped hurdle toward the finish. Overall the Camels had a spectacular day. We can’t ask much more than to run season bests at the last and largest meet of the season.

Overall results (top 8 places score and receive medals):

2nd place: Becca Cline, 100 meter hurdles, 15.21, Season Best time

The Lady Camels put forth their best effort in every event this year and even though we might have come just short of our team goals, we still had a highly successful season in every way.
