KTCCCA Area Five Championships

KTCCCA Area 5 Championships 5/4/2013

On Saturday afternoon at Dixie Heights High School, both the girls and boys track teams competed in the KTCCCA Area Five Championships in which athletes had to be ranked in the top-24 in their event in Northern Kentucky to qualify. The final prep race before the regional and then state track meets, saw many members of both teams set PRs (personal records), lower their times, and furthered their distances and heights. In the end, the girls’ team earned a 3rd place finish with 106 total points and the boys’ team finished 1st with a total of 94 points. The top performances for the girls were:

  • Brooke Buckler finished 1st in the 100 meter hurdles with a 16.21
  • Molly Kitchen took home a 2nd place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.32
  • The 4×200 relay team consisting of Molly Kitchen, Becca Cline, Angela Lauer, and Brooke Buckler finished 2nd with a time of 1:50.58
  • Jennah Flairty won the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:27.33
  • The 4×100 relay team Rachel Combs, Kaitlyn Donoghue, Emily Orth, and  Meredith Donoghue crossed the finish line 5th with a time of 55.97
  • Becca Cline and Brooke Buckler placed 1st and 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles with times of 46.93 and 47.24
  • In the 800 meter run, Jennah Flairty finished 2nd while Alex Gregory finished 8th with times of 2:26.33 and 2:37.25
  • Molly Kitchen took 3rd in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.40
  • The 4×400 relay team of Becca Cline, Alex Gregory, Molly Kitchen, and Brooke Buckler placed 2nd with a time of 4:16.65
  • Emily Steele, with a jump of 4-06, finished 6th in the high jump
  • In the girls pole vault, Angela Lauer finished 1st with a height of 8-00.00, Alex Gregory finished 4th with a height of 7-00.00, and Kristen Spahr finished 5th with a height of 7-00.00
  • Meredith Donoghue finished 8th in the triple jump with a distance of 29-07.50
  • Olivia Cassinelli placed 8th in the discus with a throw of 79-00

The top performances on the boys’ side were:

  • The 4×800 relay team of Mark Chaplin, Brandon Cartwright, Kevin Lackey, and Dylan Valdez took home a 5th place finish with a time of 8:59.96
  • Cody Canaday and Mohammed Bayaari earned 7th and 8th place finishes in the 110 meter hurdles with times of 17.55 and 17.76
  • Jake Zabonick finished 2nd in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.57
  • The 4×200 relay team of Time Weimer, Grant Mahoney, Devon Strange, and Jake Zabonick finished 1st with a time of 1:34.22
  • The 4×100 relay team of Roosevelt Obison, Grant Mahoney, Devon Strange, and Jake Zabonick were the runners-up in the event with a time of 44.45
  • Grant Mahoney finished 1st and set a new meet record with a time of 50.45
  • Mohammed Bayaari earned a 3rd place finish in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 43.11
  • Tim Weimer took home 5th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.16
  • In the 3200 meter run, Mark Chaplin crossed the finish line 4th with a time of 10:31.17
  • The 4×400 relay team of Tim Weimer, Devon Strange, Mohammed Bayaari, and Grant Mahoney placed 1st with a time of 3:34.24
  • Matt Mayer, with a jump of 5-08.00, finished 2nd in the high jump
  • In the boys’ pole vault, Will Seiter placed 2nd with a height of 11-00.00 and Ben See placed 7th with a height of 9-06.00
  • Andrew Hyden finished 8th in the triple jump with a distance of 36-07.75
  • Doug Carson placed 4th in the shot put with a throw of 42-01.00

Next week, both of the Camels’ track teams compete next Saturday at the Region 5, AAA Championships at Dixie Heights High School.
