The camels came up just short tonight in their home opener against Highlands. Although it was a loss, the camels showed that even when it looks like the game is way out of hand they never give up.

In the first half the blue birds were pouring it on, scoring 23 points. It looked as if a blowout was going to happen. But the camels were able to get through the rest of the half without allowing highlands to score again. Going into halftime down 23-0.

The third quarter would be pretty uneventful until the camels put a drive together at the end that would give them their first touchdown on the opening play of the fourth quarter as Carson Plessinger ran it up the middle. They would convert the two point conversion making the score 8-23.

The defense would hold the rest of the quarter, and with under three minutes left Plessinger would take the ball into the end zone again on another short run. Once again they would convert on the two point conversion. That would get them within 7 points.

The defense stopped Highlands again putting them in a 4th and 2 situation around midfield with under 30 seconds to go. In a punt formation, Highlands ran a fake and got the first down. They would run the rest of the clock out as the camels were out of timeouts.

Great job camels, even though it was a loss, you showed that they won’t give up.

Next week they travel to Newport Stadium to take on Newport Central Catholic.
