Camels lose in last minute to Conner

Tonight’s homecoming game started well, but at the end the Camels couldn’t hold off the late surge from the Conner Cougars.

The Camels came out strong in the first half, while Conner scored 35 second half points, the last 7 coming in the last seconds of the game.

In the second quarter #28 Alex Howard got the Camels on the board with a 13 yard touchdown run, Grant Mahoney’s extra point was good, as the Camels took the lead 7 – 0 with 5:35 left in the half. Almost 5 minutes later #83 Jake Zabonick took a short pass from #18 Tyler Durham, and turned it into a 77 yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion was unsuccessful, making the halftime score 13 – 0.

At the beginning of the second half the Camels looked much the same and the quickly added to their lead with a 55 yard touchdown run from Tyler Durham. Alex Howard scored on the two point conversion, making the score 21 – 0 with 10:28 left in the third quarter.

Conner’s first points came off a 14 yard touchdown pass. The extra point attempted was blocked by #12 Tyler Walsh. Making the score 21 – 6 midway through the 3rd.

During Conner’s next possession #31 Robert Metz intercepted the ball deep in Conner territory. #24 Bobby Moore scored a touchdown on a 7 yard run. The field goal was good making the score 28 – 6.

Just when it looked like the Camels had wrapped up the game, Conner’s offense took charge. They scored a touchdown on each of their last four possessions. As the game was tied at 28, the Cougars scored the go-ahead touchdown with 7 seconds left. The extra point was successful making the score 28 – 35.

After the kickoff the camels ran one play which got them near mid-field as time expired.

Next week their is no game. They open district play at Simon Kenton on Friday September 28 at 7:00pm.
