Success At Mason County

It was a great weekend to be a Camel County Cross Country Runner! Running at the Mason County Invitational in Maysville, KY is always a great day. They have a course with great footing, and always provide solid fast times. Saturday’s weather being almost 30 degrees cooler than practice for the past 2 weeks definitely helped!

In our debut race with a full varsity team, the Lady Camels placed in the top half of scoring teams and put themselves in possible future state qualifying position by being 5th among our regional teams that were present. Sidney Reagor shot out of the gate running between #2 and 3 the entire race. She moved up the ranks this week with a 3rd place finish and all time PR of 19:29. Freshman Allie Franzen ran her first varsity race and hit a season best time, followed by Allison Wendling, Vanessa Neiser, and Anna Johnson, all running season bests as well.
In the JV race, Beam Kumkerd pulled in an 11th place finish, and medal winners Maddy Little and Emma Kavalauskas packed it in tight to her bring home their first awards in a high school race.

In the boys race, Shawn McGrath worked his way through the pack to a 15th place finish in the field of 195 runners and best time of 17:38, followed by Bryan Howell in 18th, and Alex Johnson in 28th. Colton Conroy and Tony Schwarberg rounded out the Camel pack as they claimed the 4th place finish of over 21 teams. It put them in position to be 2nd among our regional competition at this time–very exciting! Our 1-5 split this week was only 1:38, our best this year. With a pack like this, the Camels no doubt have their eyes set on their end of season goals. 7 of 10 of the boys beat their times and the hard work they have been putting in has really made a difference!
