On Saturday the undefeated Camels varsity team squared off with Western Hills from Cincinnati Ohio as part of the John Turner Classic at Newport High School. The Camels emerged with an 86-71 victory to go 5-0 on the season.
The Camels put in one of their best performances of the year so far with a solid offensive and defensive display. The Camels led nearly the entire game and got huge performances from Deondre Jackson, Blake Losey and Matt Wilson. Jackson and Losey were unable to make the starting lineup as both were taking the ACT test and didn’t arrive at the gym until game time. Perhaps, they should test before every game. Jackson scored a game high 29 points and was named “Player of The Game” for his efforts. Blake Losey had one of his best games of the year scoring from outside and driving to the basket to net 17 points. Matt Wilson had another double-double with 20 & 12, and Trent McGovney was solid in his role as floor general.
The Camels will take on the upstart Newport Wildcats at home on Tuesday night and then hit the road for a tough contest against defending state champion Covington Catholic on Wednesday night at CovCath.
