Camels 14 17 13 12 56

The saying “the third time is the charm” has never been more true than it was last night as this year marked the third straight year that Johnson Central returned to the state tournament, and unlike the previous two years, they didn’t fall in their first round game.

In the early stages the camels showed a lot of promise. At one point in the second quarter they had their largest lead at 13 points. But in the final minute of the half Johnson Central would go on a 5-0 run to get within five point at the half.

The whole second half was a back and forth game, and with just under a minute left the score was tied. The camels would have the ball and try for a last second shot. With around ten seconds left, Johnson Central would steal the ball near half court and take advantage of a fast break, laying it in with 4 seconds remaining. Down by two the camels had to drive the length of the court, which proved to be to much. They just missed getting a shot off at the buzzer.

Although it was a hard way to watch the season end, I was proud to see our guys make it all the way to state after a 13 year absence. This team has a lot of players returning next season, so hopefully they can make a return trip next season.
