Grant County Invitational Recap

Posted On: September 6, 2016 Posted By: Toni McKee

Saturday’s meet at Grant County provided picture perfect weather for a cross country race! Almost all runners beat their time from the previous week by quite a bit, giving many personal records.

In the boys race, the Camels finished 9th of 25 scoring teams. Senior Bryan Howell and Junior Christian Slone once again pushed each other. Both had goals of earning medals, and Christian moved his way up and led the Camels with an award-winning 11th place finish in a large field of over 200 runners. Staying true to their close style, Bryan Howell finished just 13 seconds behind with 16th place, and Freshman Jordan Hartig continued his push in the 5K distance to keep the Camels 3 spot. Senior Anthony Schwarberg claimed the 4 position, and Colton Conroy rounded out the Camels’ scoring spots. The 1-5 split was 2:05, closer than last week and moving in the right direction. If the Camels can keep chipping away at that split, their pack will be fierce.

In the Lady Camels race, the girls finished 10th of close to 30 teams overall. Sidney Reagor attacked the course out of the gate placed 5th overall among some of the region’s top runners. Vanessa Neiser ran a Personal record time and placed 34th, followed closely by Sophomore Allie Franzen in 39th in a field of 200 runners. Having three Camels in the top 15% of the race is a good sign for the remainder of the season. Devan Carrigan continued to learn about pacing in the 3.1 mile race and improved her time. The scoring squad was topped off by sophomore Paxton Glenn. The Lady Camels had a 1-5 split of 5:10, even faster than last week.
