Camels Roll Over Cougars

Posted On: January 18, 2016 Posted By: Gary Lemons

In what seems like a rare home game this season the Camels rolled over the Conner Cougars this past Friday evening by a score of 83-70.  The Camels got off to a quick start, jumping out to a 21-16 first quarter lead and led throughout the entire game.  The Camels built a 44-28 halftime lead thanks to great passing and unselfish team basketball.  The visiting Cougars pushed the pace of the game and the Camels seemed to relish the up-tempo style breaking the Conner press defense for easy buckets.

In the 2nd half, the Cougars mounted a rally cutting the Camel lead down to 10 before a Camel timeout put the boys back on track.  The Camels maintained a double digit lead for the remainder of the game cruising to the 13 point victory.

Garren Bertsch continued to have the hot hand draining 4 three pointers on his way to a 19 point performance.  Matt Wilson recorded another double/double with 18 points and 18 rebounds and Cole Hegyi scored 12.  Trent McGovney and Tanner Clos each scored 11 to give the Camels five players in double figures for the game.

On Saturday afternoon the Camels traveled to Frankfort to play 7th ranked Lexington Lafayette in the DMD Classic.  The Camels gave up 29 first quarter points and found themselves chasing the Generals the rest of the game.  Eventually the Camels would fall 84-67.  Matt Wilson had another strong performance with 18 points and 13 rebounds, but Garren Bertsch led the Camels with 22 points despite a slow first half.  Trent McGovney scored 14 in the loss.

The Camels will be off during the week as they prepare to take on the Scott Eagles in an important 37th District seeding game Friday night at “The Hump”.  This will be the first of three straight home games.  The JV game will kick off the action at 6 with the Varsity contest to follow at 7:30.
