Campbell County’s own Lauren Macke recently earned national recognition. She was named National High School Player of the Week by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Here are some of the accomplishments Coach Dave Morris cited when nominating her:
“Macke scored five of the team’s eight goals in the KHSAA Regional Tournament. She scored back-to-back goals in the Camels’ 4-1 win in the first round of the tournament, then followed up with two goals in the first nine minutes of the semifinal game en route to the 3-0 win.
In the regional championship game, she scored the lone goal for the Camels in a game that ended in regulation at 1-1. Macke did tally a penalty kick; however the Camels lost 6-5. The junior’s efforts this season earned her First Team All-Region and she finished the year with a team-leading 20 goals. Macke and the Camels are coached by Dave Morris.”
CamelPride had the opportunity to chat with Lauren about her team, season, and this incredible honor.
CamelPride: “Congratulations on a great season! How did you find out you had been named National Player of the Week?”
Lauren: “My mom called me and said she had big news. She said Coach Morris nominated me and that I won. I was really in shock!”
CamelPride: “You had a great season and finished very strong. What do you credit your success to?”
Lauren: “I have said this many times lately. I credit all the success to my teammates. Without them none of this would be possible.”
CamelPride: “How did they react when they heard the news?”
Lauren: “They were very excited for me and the team.”
CamelPride: “You are only a junior this year. How do you build on this success next year?”
Lauren: “I think this helps remind us what can happen when we play together. I hope this helps College Coaches recognize our team and athletes. My dream is to play soccer in college.”
Lauren presented herself as a very poised leader. We congratulate the girls on a great season and can’t wait to see what they do in 2013.
Take a minute to congratulate Lauren, her team, and Coach Morris!
