Camels hire new Swim & Dive Varsity Head Coach

Introducing the new Camels Swim & Dive Varsity Coach – Amanda Johnson. Coach Johnson comes to Campbell County with over 25 years of swim coaching experience, 20 of which have been at the high school level (7 years at Beechwood & 13 years at Highlands). She has coached at both the High School and USA Swimming Club level. In her 20 years as a Head Coach at the High School level in the state of Kentucky, Coach Johnson’s teams have had much success. At her past two schools, Coach Johnson had built two of the most prominent swimming and diving programs in the state of Kentucky. Her teams won a State Championship (2020), four Runner-Up State finishes, 18 Regional Championships, 10 Boys’ Team Regional Runner-Up Finishes, 5 Girls’ and Combined Team Regional Runner-Up Finishes, and a NISCA Dual Meet National Championship in Class 2. Her athletes have won 18 individual Kentucky State Championships and been named First Team All-State, two of which were named the KHSAA Male and Female State Swimmers of the Year. Her swimmers have set three State Records and eight Regional records. She has coached 34 NISCA Swimming and Diving All-Americans and over 70 NISCA Academic All-Americans. Over twenty of her athletes have earned Division I Scholarships and many others have continued their swimming or diving careers at the Division II or III level. Her swimmers and divers have won numerous awards such as Regional Sportsmanship Awards, Pannell Swim Shop Scholarships, the Midway Student-Athlete of the Year for Swimming and Diving, and three nominations for the Cincinnati High School Sports Awards Boy Swimmer of the Year.

Coach Johnson has been named the KHSAA Outstanding Boys’ Team Coach of the Year five times, most recently in 2022. She has also been honored as the National High School Federation Boys’ Swim Coach of the Year for the State of Kentucky twice in 2009 and 2018. She was awarded the Region 7 Boys’ Swim Coach of the Year seven times, the NKY/Cincinnati Enquirer Boys’ Swimming & Diving Coach of the Year eight times, the Regional Girls Coach of the Year, and the KY Post Boys Coach of the Year. She was also nominated for the Cincinnati High School Sport Awards Boys Team Coach of Year Award. She is looking forward to this opportunity to lead the Camels’ swimming and diving programs and is excited the upcoming season.
