Pendleton County Invitational Recap

Posted On: September 29, 2013 Posted By: Toni McKee

What a great weekend for cross country! We had beautiful weather Saturday morning and the Camels took advantage of it at the Pendleton County Invitational!

In the girls varsity race, Jennah Flairty set the pace early and easily capture the gold, placing first in the meet. Anna Johnson, Amber Valdez, Allison Wendling, Kara Pangburn and Jordan Miller all put up great performances to lead the Lady Camels to a 3rd place finish!

The girls JV race, Halen Stephens showed she is getting comfortable with the 5 K distance and rolled in a second place finish and new PR! Emily Steele and Alicia Setty also continued in their improvement for their first Cross Country season.

In the boys varsity race, Mark Chaplin held off a tough competitor and eventually pulled away to take the first place position and cruise in at a near PR. Not far behind was Freshman Joey McGrath who placed 6th, just 1 minute and 15 seconds behind Mark as he continues to close the 1-2 gap. Sophomore Thomas Comer moved up to the #3 spot on the team, closely followed by Ian Franzen, Jared Neiser, Bryan Howell and Parker Younse in continued pack mentality, making the 1-5 split a 2:41. The Camels continue to inch closer to the coveted sub 2 minute split and should be ready to fly at the conference meet next week!

The boys JV team easily clinched the 1st place team championship, led by freshman Shawn McGrath who was 2nd and Andrew Kiddy who placed 3rd. Anthony Schwarberg, Jake Verst, Grant Combs, and Jarrod Manser formed a tightly knit group rounded out by Senior Doug Carson.
